We’re so glad you’re part of the Beyondbnb community! We know many owners love bringing their furry friends to their properties—but we also know how important it is to balance this with guest expectations. This guide will help you understand how we handle owner pets, guest stays, and why becoming a pet-friendly listing could be a great opportunity for you.
1. Owners with pets but a non-pet-friendly listing
We’ve noticed a growing number of guest concerns when pets have been in properties not marked as pet-friendly. While you may love your dog or cat, your guests may not feel the same way—especially those with allergies.
On some platforms like Airbnb, we can clearly disclose if an owner has pets. However, on others (Booking.com, Expedia, VRBO) it’s not always obvious. Even small traces like pet hair can lead to negative reviews, which can hurt your listing’s performance.
What you need to do:
- When we onboard your property, please let us know if you own a pet that has access to the property—even if you do not want to list it as pet-friendly.
- Or, if you know that a pet has previously lived in your rental property, we need to know this too.
- This helps us note it in the listing for allergy-sensitive guests and avoid surprises.
- We want every guest to have a great experience!
2. Cleaning fees and owner stays with pets
Here’s some background information on how pet fees work for guests:
- When a guest brings a pet to a pet-friendly property, they pay a standard cleaning fee plus a pet cleaning fee.
- That pet cleaning fee is split 50/50 between you and us.
- Our portion covers the extra laundry and cleaning time.
- Your portion covers the additional wear and tear on the property.
Owner stay, with pet, cleaning fees explained:
- When you bring your pet to your property, we do not charge the pet cleaning fee.
- However, if our cleaners need extra time after your stay, we must charge for the additional cleaning at $50/hour plus any extra laundry if white linens were used.
- To avoid this, we recommend:
- Vacuum thoroughly (including sofas and soft furnishings) before you checkout.
- Notify us before you bring your pet so we can switch to dark linens and avoid extra laundry charges.
